Yuschenko claimed that he is one of the best five bankers in the world


Ukrainian president Victor Yuschenko said that he is in the "top 5" list of world bankers. "I am economist, I am financier. I think I am in the top five list of the best bankers in the world." – president said during his visit to the media center in Kremenchug.

Wladimir Klitschko wins heavyweight unification fight

In New York Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko won Sultan Ibragimov by unanimous decision of all judges (119-110, 117-111, 118-110) and became titleholder by both versions IBF and WBO.

Russian heavyweight boxer Sultan Ibragimov didn't expect Wladimir Klitschko would be so fast. "He (Klitschko) was much slower in his previous fights. My plan was to be very active, break the distance but it was too hard." - he said.

From his side, Klitschko says he is happy to hold three titles IBF, WBO and IBO. "I'm happy to get back my first title in professional sport - WBO.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Julia Timoshenko has already congratulated Wladimir with the victory over Russian boxer Sultan Ibragimov.

Playland visitors in Simferopol can punch policeman for money


In Simferopol playland a new a attraction "Punch the policeman" which allows visitors to beat a policeman dummy for a moderate price. Automatic machine attracts visitors by the following phrases: "I'm an evil cop! I'm the one who penalizes you! Do you have the guts to prove that you are cool? Punch me!". The attraction is very popular among visitors, while police are outraged.

Alexander Miroshnichenko, the director of Simferopol ecological-cultural center for kids, was surprised to see the new attraction, however, he has no right to do anything about it. "Obviously, if this machine is popular, then people have such a need" – he says.

Anatoly Protsenko, the chief of police states that the existence of this attraction is the offence of all policemen, while businessmen, who rent the place in the playland are sure that attraction "Punch the policeman" is nothing but a joke and such machines popular around the world.

100 traffic policemen and special operations detachment Berkut had an unprecedented fight in Uzhgorod

More than 100 traffic policemen and special operations detachment Berkut had a fight in Uzhgorod restaurant "Detsa U Notarya", where a group of 20 people from Berkut had a banquet, while traffic police from Transcarpathian and Kirovograd also had a party there.

Some people from Berkut and traffic police went out of the restaurant to "sort out their relationship" and after a while traffic police called for help and more policemen moved up to the restaurant in minutes. Berkut in their turn called their on-duty detachment. Also one of the civilian who took part in Berkut banquet (certain Ukrainian citizen L. who lives in Prague) called somebody and after his call a group of unknown young men with baseball bats drove up to the restaurant and joined the fight against traffic police.

Finally special anti-terrorist forces group Sokol arrived at the place and stopped the fight. Uzhgorod major Serge Ratushnyak stated that this is an unprecedented event in modern Ukrainian history.

Lovers tram in Lvov


On February 14 one of the trams in Lvov (Lviv) works only for loving couples. To get the ticket lovers will need to kiss before stepping in. The tram will be decorated with balloons, passengers will enjoy music and conductor will share the sweets and pour champagne instead of the tickets. Also the passengers will take part in the excursion dedicated to Saint Valentine's Day.

Naked girls on Lvov city hall will be monitored by video camera

Photo session of naked Ukrainian model on Lvov (Lviv) city hall appeared recently in the Internet. Local authorities reacted immediately and announced that video cameras will be set on the city hall roof and all tourists will be monitored.

"It is forbidden to rent the city hall area for such aims like erotic photo session, however, some visitors manage to do this when there are no other tourists on the roof" said Miron Trokhimchuk, the city hall director.

Authorities have already set a loud-speaker on the Lvov city hall and tourists can listen to music from it during the day. When the video cameras are set, tourists who behave "strange" will be warned against illegal actions through this loud speaker.

Bondarenko sisters win a Grand Slam

Ukrainian tennis-players won Australian Open doubles on Friday, January 25, 2008. Alyona and Kateryna Bondarenko became the first siblings to win a Grand Slam event since Venus and Serena Williams in 2003. They defeated Azarenka, from Belarus, and Shahar Peer from Israel failing the first and leading in the other two sets: 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Ukrainian sisters' victory became a sensation in tennis world: they never ventured beyond the semifinals of any tennis event and Ukraine never won such a prestigious women's doubles championship. Alyona and Kateryna Bondarenko will share the prize of $400 thousand dollars.
